National Poison Prevention Week

Category General
Paws Up 5 out of 148 votes

In honor of National Poison Prevention Week VESCONE would like to remind pet owners of potentially toxic items found in and around your home that can cause serious injury to your pet.

Some dogs and a few cats too, are master beggars but leave the human food to humans. Common ingredients that are poisonous to pets are:

• Alcoholic beverages
• Bones
• Chocolate
• Coffee
• Garlic
• Grapes
• Onions and onion powder
• Raisins

Romping alone in the backyard can be fatal for pets as well. Some commonly found
toxic items include:

• Antifreeze
• Citronella candles
• Cocoa mulch
• Fertilizers
• Fly baits containing methomyl
• Swimming-pool
treatment supplies
• Slug and snail baits containing metaldehyde
Store all cleaners, pesticides and other potentially hazardous items in a secured area that is inaccessible to your pet.

If you believe your pet may have been exposed to any of the above toxins, please call VESCONE at 781-684-8387 or the Animal Poison Control Hotline at 888-426-4235 and a veterinarian will speak with you about further care for your pet.

The two-day carnival, which is being held over the weekend and caters exclusively to pet parents and their pooches, will see two Shih-Tzus, Mishti (the bride) and Google (the groom), tie the knot on February 12.
