Bleeding paws and blood in urine
Posted Sunday, 31 January 2010 By Jennifer Ernst
Hello Dr Carol

My dog Falcon is a 2 1/2 year old German Short Hair Pointer. My father took him hunting, and after being out for a short while in the cold and ice, my dad noticed that Falcon's paws were all cut up and bleeding. He also began urinating blood. My dad immediately took Falcon to the vet. The vet did a CBC, Blood Chemistry and PT. All tests returned back normal. The vet also put Falcon on 75 mg of RIMADYL, twice daily. The vet felt the blood in the urine was stress related, and has not occured since. My question to you is, is there anything that we can do to toughen up Falcon's paws, as we certainly don't want this happening again. We did try booties, but Falcon would not wear them.
Thank you.
